Wondering what the Pure Nintendo team has been playing lately? Our latest playlist includes a wide range of games, from classic SNES titles to the latest LEGO games.

We’ve found ourselves playing a lot of Zelda and Pokémon titles on a range of systems, from the SNES and 3DS right up to the Switch. Pokémon Unite was a particular highlight in online mode, with the team getting together to take on the world. More or less.

Other recently played games on our playlist include the car-racing shenanigans of Mini Motorways, the latest LEGO game, and a revisit to the three houses of Fire Emblem.

Whether you’re seeking inspiration or you’re simply curious about what we’ve been up to recently, check out our playlist below to see which games we’re obsessing over. More importantly, what are you playing right now? How’s that backlog going? Let us know in the comments section below!

Pure Nintendo playlist

Ted

  • Ring Fit Adventure (Switch) – Since moving out with my girlfriend, I now have the appropriate space to play this game, and it is a proper workout! Got two weddings coming up, so it’s perfect timing to trim down a little for those! I’m surprised how well made the story is and how it engages you to want to push on further.
  • Dojoran (Switch) – I return to this precision platformer often, as it’s a great pick up and play game for when you want to kill some time. The trouble is, I’ll usually sit there longer than intended, trying to pass that one tricky area. Tons of fun!
  • Mini Motorways (Switch) – I originally purchased this for my girlfriend, but she hardly had a go due to my newfound love for this video game! It’s weirdly calming and therapeutic, yet anxiety inducing when the cars begin to queue up or a new building pops up nowhere near a house of the same colour. Such a simple idea, excellently executed.

Cody

  • Nintendo Switch Sports (Switch) – I’ve been enjoying playing the bowling and volleyball. There are some improvements from Wii Sports that I enjoyed while not losing the simple.
  • Banjo-Kazooie (N64 – Switch Online) – Having this come to Switch Online recently was the highlight of all the games added for me. I remember playing this on N64 and loving it, and it hasn’t lost it allure all these years later.
  • Imp of the Sun (Switch) – I just had a review published on this game. The graphics are very unique for this 2D side-scroller.

Roger

  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES – Switch Online) – I never really played A Link to the Past before; my brother owned it, but for some reason, I never played it. After listening to Reggie’s story from his book Disrupting the Game, I thought it was about time that I gave the game a go as well. And while I’m not staying up until the wee hours of the night on a work day, I am enjoying my time with the game.
  • Mini Motorways (Switch) – I’m addicted to this game. It’s my go-to game when I want to unwind from a long day. Plus, I need to beat Ted in every challenge in the game, so there’s that, too.

Trev

  • Pokémon Y (3DS) – Kicking off a theme for my playlist this time around, I finally beat Pokémon Y. I’ve owned the game for years but didn’t get into it until recently. It’s also the first Pokémon game I’ve ever beaten! But it won’t be the last because…
  • Pokémon Sun (3DS) – Time to party like it’s late 2016. I actually played this a fair amount back in the day and almost finished it. But life got in the way, and I set it down. Decided to start fresh coming off of Y. I still enjoy the island regions.
  • Pokémon Unite (Switch) – I played this game with Justin, Jemma, and Roger during a long-overdue PN game night. I swear I am working on review stuff in between these Pokémon titles.

Kirk

  • Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising (Switch) – Wrapping up a review of this precursor to the forthcoming Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. An action adventure with some town management elements, Rising isn’t exactly my type of game, but it’s perky enough to have kept me entertained so far.
  • Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Switch) – I never finished the Golden Deer path, so I’m finally pushing through that ahead of the Three Hopes release. I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed the Fire Emblemy elements of Three Houses, and how much I was annoyed by the dorky schoolhouse stuff. You can feel free to keep choir practice out of all my future games, developers.
  • Touken Ranbu Warriors (Switch) – Why not play another variation on the musou theme? Based on the titular manga, this one differs distinctly from the typical Warriors game. Whether that’s good or bad will be saved for my review.

Justin

  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES – Switch Online) – Katelyn and I have been playing through this lately too. We’re about to head to Turtle Rock.
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch) – Played some with the PN crew at our game night and had a lot of fun with some of the new courses in the Battle Pass as well as the battle mode.
  • Dr. Mario 64 (N64 – Switch Online) – We’re still rocking this at most of the game nights we host. Still so much fun! Check it out if you haven’t before — 4 player vs is fantastic!

Jemma

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch) – I’ve been revisiting the latest Zelda and having an absolute blast. There’s so much room to wander and explore, it still makes me go “wow” after all these years. Who knows what they can bring to the table with Breath of the Wild 2?
  • Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (Switch) – We’ve made our way through the original trilogy and are now halfway through the prequel trilogy. LEGO games have a way of balancing fun puzzles without being too arduous. This is a super-fun way to relive the movies and might be on my playlist for a while longer.
  • Pokémon Unite (Switch) – I tried this for the first time yesterday as Justin, Trev, Roger, and I got together to battle it out in this unique game that crosses Pokémon with something akin to basketball. It’s super fun, especially with a group of friends. The user interface could use work though 😉
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch) – We also got together to play some Mario Kart, specifically to try the new tracks. Playing together online was a blast. And I didn’t lose!
  • Wildcat Gun Machine (Switch) – I reviewed this one recently, it’s a great twin-stick shooter that’s super hard but super satisfying!
